From Monmouthshire and the west of England, Ghost of a Dog hope to build upon the critical success of their first album Full Moon Crime Spree, with the follow up COYOTE (release Dec 15th 2012 on Habit Formed Records).
Their country rocking /Americana rooted sound is given a more rocky and soulful makeover on the new album which continues with gothic lyrical themes that were found on the first album, which Maverick Magazine called “Fresh and Exciting...impressive debut characterised by stunning vocals...” and the Bristol Evening Post as “..highly melodic, well crafted songs....one of the strongest, richest voices to be heard on the British alt-country scene”
Front woman Tamzin Powell, has been variously described as everything from “...a country Kate Bush” to “one of the finest voices to come out of Wales in recent history” , and started the band with husband Matt in 2008 as an outlet for their Laurel Canyon, Country and Britfolk infused acoustic songs. With the help of a variety of musicians along the way Ghost of a Dog have built a solid fanbase through extensive gigging both in their own right and as support to the likes of Jace Everett, Alabama 3, The Redlands Palomino Company, The Animals and many others.
Ghost of a Dog’s debut album Full Moon Crime Spree, released in 2009 via the Folkwit label was mostly co-written by Matt and Tamzin Powell and draws on their influences such as The Byrds, Neil Young, Whisky Town, Cowboy Junkies, Joni Mitchell, Emmylou, Lone Justice, and Calexico. Writing Coyote was a much more collaborative affair giving the album a more organic feel and injecting the band with a renewed vigour for the preaching of their unique brand of British Americana.
